The role of mite pocket-like structures on Agama caudospinosa (Agamidae) infested by Pterygosoma livingstonei sp. n. (Acari: Prostigmata: Pterygosomatidae).
Pterygosoma livingstonei sp. n. collected from the Kenyan lizard Agama caudospinosa Meek shows morphological affinities with other South African congener species parasitizing lizards of the genus Agama, especially with P. triangulare Lawrence, 1936, but it differs in having glabrous genua II and III. P. livingstonei shows affinities with the Lawrence's hispida species group in the characters of...
متن کاملCaamembecaia gratiosus n. gen., n. sp. (Acari: Trombiculidae), from Trinomys gratiosus (Gunter) (Rodentia: Echimydae), of Atlantic forest in southeastern Brazil.
From June 1999 to May 2001, small mammals were captured in three areas of the Atlantic Forest in Southeastern Brazil and examined for ectoparasites. Analysis of ectoparasites revealed the presence of a new chigger genus and species, Caamembecaia gratiosus, from Trinomys gratiosus. This is the first record of a chigger from T. gratiosus.
متن کاملMorphological and molecular characterization of a microsporidian parasite, Takaokaspora nipponicus n. gen., n. sp. from the invasive rock pool mosquito, Ochlerotatus japonicus japonicus.
A new genus and species of Microsporidia, Takaokaspora nipponicus n. gen., n. sp. is described from Ochlerotatus japonicus japonicus (Theobald) and Ochlerotatus hatorii (Yamada) based on light microscope and ultrastructural morphology, developmental features, transmission cycles and comparative sequence analyses of the small subunit ribosomal DNA (SSU rDNA). The microsporidium is both verticall...

Human dermatosis caused by the bite of trombiculid mite larvae, LqPtotrombidium inter7nedium, was observed by exposing the larvae to the skin of two volunteers (A and B). A total of forty unfed larvae were exposed to the forearm of A, Six larvae bit, but five out of the six detached within 45 min. postinfestation. Only one larva enlarged, fully engorged, and detached itself by 66 hrs. postinfes...
متن کاملNotes on Som'e Chiggers' (Acarina: Trombiculidae)
THE FOLLOWING ACCOUNT is based upon specimens collected by members of the 207th Preventive Medicine Survey Detachment and the 37th Preventive Medicine Survey Detachment in southern Korea. It is undoubtedly incomplete, and the sampling may be selective: the hosts examined came mostly from agricultural areas and near dwellings. Despite the inevitable shortcomings of such a pre~ liminary survey, t...
